Project 9 - Fine Art Portraits
This is a portrait that I took of one of my fellow rowers. He's standing in this simplistic position because it emphasizes the seriousness associated with the sport. I included the arms and chest to show just how massive some of these people are, and how much time, dedication, and effort is required to be successful. The photo is in black and white because simplifies this single story that we got from images into two colors; black and white, allowing the viewer to really focus on the subject. Also added the blur to create a mysterious feel and to really show how much of a single story photos can really be.
In this rough magazine cover, I wanted to send a message through the image itself. I noticed how a lot of magazine covers did't really symbolize what was going on within the magazine. So I decided to really link the two. Having Carlos hanging with a distressed face really helps emphasize/ bring across the message of the economic situation that we are dealing with now!

Project 7 -
The daguerreotype above was done in a traditional manner. Instead of using a silver-copper sheet treated in fumes, I attempted to give it the same effect digital. Using textures, photo editing software, and exc. The velvet-black background with the subject in front give it this beautiful sense of mystery. For instance, I picture it as a man exiting the essence of the dark with this grin on his face because he somehow has experienced the world. -Feel free to leave interpretations in the comments!
I loved the bizarreness of this image, especially when made into a gum bichromate(using digital processes). It just had this spacey feel to it, that made me feel like I was on a different planet. Also the intensity, saturation, and mix of colors create this beautiful, yet mind blowing Image. After making the gum bichromate, I decided to mess around some more with it and turned it into a negative which gave it this really cool look to it.
This panorama/vandyke print made me feel like I took this back in the 60's. Just because of how worn down the image is. I was able to give it this effect by using a variety of brushes, leaving some gaps of white. I also added 2 textures that are more visible in the bottom right area.

PRE-WORK:
Daguerrotype: The daguerreotype image is formed directly on a silver plated copper plate which was made light sensitive with a surface coating of iodine vapors
Cyanotype: The cyanotype process uses light sensitive iron salts instead of silver on paper. The prints are characterized by their blue color, and are sometimes called blueprints
Gum Bichromate: is a 19th-century photographic printing process based on the light sensitivity of dichromates. It is capable of rendering painterly images from photographic negatives.

Project 6
This is a really interesting triptych of one panorama with drastically different edits. They are oriented in the order that I edited them. Starting off with the bottom one where I added a gradient to get the mystical blue/doomsday clouds above the city. I then moved into inverting it, which gave it an extremely intriguing appearance. I really liked how in the middle panorama, some of the colors are still visible, especially over big pink. I then decided to mess around a bit more with it and made it black and white. Doing this really caught my eye. I like how there is a major contrast between the black of the water and sky and the white glow of the buildings. The contrast gives it the sense of separation, or how humans have destroyed the nature and made it into this city that towers over the land.
Both photos above are exactly the same, only that they were edited in completely different ways. They are both HDR, but the effects that I got attempting it were quite drastic. The first photo was done on my computer, where I wasn't able t get a proper HDR no matter what method I used to get it. But I got was this extremely bizarre over exposed monochrome image that was a blend of blue and white. It didn't really appeal to me at first, but after making some edits and turning everything red it began to remind me of some sort of Chinese propaganda art. Even though it's extremely pixilated and difficult decipher, this concept of turing a photo into potentially a form of propaganda really interested me. Now moving onto the second photo, what I had to do to get the HDR was email it to my friend Carlos where he was able to make it into a proper HDR. I also added a gradient to give it this doomsday effect, and added a texture in photoshop.

Project 5
This is a slide show from the photos that I took for Project 5. Where we experimented with manual controls.
